Attention CrossFitters, Pelotonia riders, 5K runners, strength builders, weight losers, yoga and pilates mat stretchers, and everyone else who tries to eat this and not that. Simply Fit is your food truck. Simply Fit opens officially on Saturday serving a wide selection of freshly prepared high protein/low carb meals and snacks from a trailer in the parking lot of Toys R Us in South 30th Street in Heath. They are in a soft opening now and LickingEats.com had a taste, and a conversation, with the owner/operators.
If you are among the thousands in Licking County following a fairly strict high protein/low carb diet you know the challenge of eating out. Your solution is to be extremely selective where you dine and even then you make annoying special requests; altering the amount of protein, asking for low fat preparations, etc. while still getting served sides you can’t eat.
Not enough area restaurants accommodate menu items and preparations for restrictive diets. That is what Trevor Scott and Trevor Garber noticed too. The Trevors are both certified professional fitness trainers who first met at the Advantage Club and are now partners at Elite1Fitness on South 30th Street in Heath. They were as frustrated as most of us and saw the weakness in the market as an opportunity.
^Grilled chicken breast, potato, and green peppers. Eat em as is or have a choice among three sugar-free dipping sauces BBQ, Buffalo, and Ranch.
“We wanted to fill a void and create a healthy option for fast/quick-served food,” says Scott, originally from Loudonville, Ohio. “Trevor and I imagined a place, and menu, that offered people who are training what they needed but didn’t have,” added Garber, a Green Wave grad. The solution was Simply Fit. Fast, fresh, convenient, high protein, low carb, minimal oils, minimal sugars. Just drive up, order and go.
LickingEats.com sampled the chicken kabobs, three skewers of grilled chicken breast, potato, and green peppers. No lie. It was a guilt-free, delicious lunch and I look forward to trying more of the menu after their official opening Saturday.
The full menu selection includes meals, bowls, kabobs, lettuce wraps, protein shakes (featuring Elite1Fitness’ 100% pure whey powder) and ice cream (12g protein each). They are currently open from 7:30am to 7:30pm so you can get your protein fix at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Everything is prepared with fresh, lean ingredients like chicken, eggs, peppers, broccoli, green beans, potato. And every dish includes 8 grams of protein. Prices are very good with most menu items at $7.99 and shakes at $4.99
If you live under a rock and are unfamiliar, protein-packed products are flooding stores, and the list of popular protein-rich diets—Paleo, Zone, Adkins and more—continues to grow. All claim that you’ll lose pounds, feel peppier, and reduce your risk of heart disease. Limiting carbs helps lower blood sugar, insulin, bad cholesterol, and blood pressure. It also boosts HDL ("good") cholesterol.
Simply Fit is technically a trailer. While it is mobile, Simply Fit is hoping to make their parking spot here somewhat permanent and, occasionally joining the many food truck rallies and events around the county.
