Granville’s Brews sudden and unexpected closure last week with an announcement tacked to their door stating they would reopen in December after “construction” has many rumors circulating about what is truly happening. Sources we’ve spoken to in local food business have heard that Donatos will be taking over, bringing their new Black Brick Bar to the historic property in the heart of Granville village.

Donatos Black Brick was first unveiled in January in the Short North of Columbus. Prominent in the new concept is a full bar, featuring local distilleries and craft brewers, and showcasing live music. Columbus Underground reported on the new Donatos last January in Flagship Store Represents the Modern Evolution of the Donatos Brand.

There has been no word yet from Brews owner Jerry Martin regarding the sudden closure of Brews. We reached out for clarification, or comment, and have not received a response as of this writing. [UPDATE: Brews owner Jerry Martin responded this afternoon commenting on the Licking Eats Facebook page that "No bricks will be painted black."] Brews Facebook page offers no clues except for a lonely final post October 9. We assume the Donatos Black Brick takeover means the end of 1 Linden Avenue, the upscale dining restaurant that took over the third floor of Brews Too in September 2014.
^ Crowds enjoy live music on the third floor of Brews before the music stopped in 2014.
If the rumors are true it is likely that the Black Brick will occupy all three floors and return live music to the business. It would also mark a sad end to a long history of one of Granville’s favorite local spots.
